The Fifth Group of Primary School Children Studying Overseas Has Been Back Home
They gave a wonderful performance To show their achievements
Are they Chinese School children?

On the stage, scores of Chinese school children are giving wonderful performance in fluent English. They are either talking, or singing, or performing with gestures. Their idiomatic American English probably may make the audience guess whether they are Americans of Chinese descents. The answer is no. They are 6 Grade students of of Huijia College who has just come back from the United States where they studied for ten months and now they are giving performance.
There have been five times to hold such kind activities. As a rule, every year a group of Huijia's students were sent to the friendship school in Los Angeles in the United States to have student exchange activities. They studied with the students there to have intensified English study and experienced the differences between the Chinese and American cultures.
It is the "5 + 1" experimental reform in teaching method that provide such opportunities for the students to study abroad. The "5 + 1" teaching system is to complete the compulsory teaching contents stipulated by the state in five years so that the sixth year can be used to focus on intensive study of English either inside the country or abroad.
Most of the students have just finished the fifth year course when they go abroad. Therefore, as a rule they should be sixth graders in class placement. However, the grade and class placement in the schools of the United States is arranged according to the study level and aptitude of the students. In this way the 43 students were divided into 4 grades and 5 classes. Even in the same junior Grade 2, the arrangement of teaching process is different for Class 1 and Class 2. In this way the teachers can give their lessons in accordance with the students' actual level and aptitude to give the students full play of their potentials. Moreover, the teachers pay close attention to the progress of their students. Once a student has reached the higher level, he/she will be awarded with allowing going up to a higher grade. In the 43 students studying in the American School, 4 students were promoted to senior grade. The 4 students are only the junior grade or primary school students in their age. Compared with their classmates, they are much younger. At first, their study results were not satisfactory. While half a year later, benefiting from the new teaching approaches and the flexible practice and guidance of American teachers, they became outstanding ones in the class. Among the four students, three of them were awarded special grade prize and one the first prize.
At the report meeting, Mr. Mark, the principal of Oxford School, awarded the cup for the students.
The college administration leaders, the parents of the students coming back from abroad and part of the student representatives attended the meeting and watch the performance.
