Push forward Huijia's Development by Making the Most of the Favorable Situation of the National Education Working Conference Wang Jiajun As a private school principal, I was so glad to have the honor of attending the national education working conference held not long ago, at which I luckily had the opportunity to meet with the leaders of the party's central committee, and listen to the speeches delivered by President Jiang Zemin, Premier Zhu Rongji and Vice-premier Li Lanqing. I also had the opportunity to study and discuss the spirit of the conference together with the mayor, vice-mayor, the director of the educational committee of Beijing, and many educational experts who attended the conference. The conference was a pragmatic one and of a clear theme, distinct emphasis and definite tasks. It further refirmed the judgement that education is fundamental to China's prosperity, and thus all the citizens are responsible for developing education programs. as a veteran in the educational front, I was deeply encouraged and enlightened, and felt so excited that I couldn't calm down for quite a long time. Through studying and discussing the problems at the conference, I once more felt the heavy responsibilities shouldered on me as a private school principal. President Jiang Zemin and Prenier Zhu Rongji prt forward a lot of very important ideas and requirements that I think would have far reaching significance to the development of China's educatin in the future. The conference are centered on the implementation of the strategic ideas of " revitalizing the mation through science and education." It refirmed that "Upgrading people's qualities and nurturing students' creativity and practical skills" should be taken as strategic emphasis of educational work at every levels. It also clearly pointed out that education shouldn't be of one- sidedness in practice, for education would have great influence on the course of ones career in his life. Mean while, ideological education cannot be loosen up, on the contrary, it should be strengthened as a part of quality edcation. To avoid confusion, at the conference the implication of quality education was clearly defined and a series of concrete requirements were put forward concerning how to implement quality educatiion and who should be responsible for its implementation. These are earnest requirements and espectations for school principals, teachers and all the educational workers. President Jiang Zemin in recent years has reiterated the vital importance of nurturing people with innovative spirits. At this education working conference he once again pointed out that we must deepen our understanding of the cultivation of independent thinking, creative spirit and the practicao ability of the nation to an extent that it would be related to the prosperity of the Chinese nation, and education shouldered on us a special responsibility in the cultivation of the creative spitit of the hation and the fostering of talents with comprehensive knowledge, practical abilities and innovative spirits. In his report, President Jiang Zemin repeatedly mentioned the necessity of fostering the students' creative spirit and comprehensive ability and even referred in detail to how the teacher's should find out and protect the students' creative consciousness and encourage them to be the first in their studies. This incisive ideas will definitely be helpful for school principals and teachers to emancipate their mind, change the old ideas and strengthen the dynamics of the reforms regarding the educational structure and system. This will inspire all the educational workers to even better accomplish their mission and responsibility in the cultivation of the students' comprehensive knowledge and innovative ability, and consequently, change the long-standing stagnant phenomenon in educational development to meet the coming of the new century. At the conference Premier Zhu Rongji pointed out that educational reform and development must be accelerated to form a new situation that both the state- run and private schools would be in full development, with the state- run school as the main composition of the whole educational stucture. Thus it can be seen that there will certainly be a trend of varied forms in educational development. as a private school principal, I'm extremely excited for having such a favorable opportunity for the development of China's education. Huija educational sinstitution has just been under development of such a good situation. Now the institution has already owned Huijia kindergarten, Huijia school, Huijia vocational technical school, and China- Australia college. Moreover, it has been planned to set up a university and a language institute to form a comprehensive, educational development zone of different educational levels which is to be jointly operated and shared with all partners. I'm fully convinced that, under the encouragement of the spirit of the national educational development zone will surely spring up in the southern part of Changping county of Beijing. |
