Regulations of the Modern Drama Group of Beijing Huijia School

¢ñ.General purpose
The Modern Drama Group of Beijing Huijia School (Huijia Modern Drama Group in short) is an extra-curricular activity organization of Huijia school. The purpose of activities is to promote the student's moral character and overall ability, put Huijia's training goal into practice, cultivater the students' understanding in literature, ability in expressing oneself orally and aesthetic judgement, and through such activities to enrich the students' school life. In the end it will be helpful for the training of talented students in the 21st century.

2.Huijia Modern Drama Group is jointly operated by the teaching group of Chinese language and literature, the general branch of the Youth League, and the students' Union under the middle school department.
The general branch of the Youth League and the Students' Union will be responsible for the organization of drama group's activities and performances, and the Chinese language and literature teaching group of the middle school department is responsible for directing and having rehearsal of specific drama.

¢ó. Members of the modern drama group.
1. The number of students participating the group will be about 50, selected from each grades of the middle school and primary school department.
2. Students wishing to participate the drama group should make an application for membership and be selected by directors.
3. Members of the drama group must be good in moral character and studies, take part in the activities conscientiously; follow the guidance, abide by the regulations and complete the assigned task.
4. In case anyone of the drama group does not follow the guidance and doesn't complete the task, and does not take part in the activities up to three times, he will be expelled from the group.
5. Members of the drama group must be serious and conscientious, and must not do anything that has nothing to do with the rehearsal during the period of activities of the drama group, Otherwise, they will be expelled from the group.

¢ô. Activities
1. The drama activities include bilingual (Chinese and English) performance, such as giving performances of Chinese and English famous plays and recitation of poems and essays.
2. There are drama group activities twice a week, The plan for activities should be drawn up by director's and submitted to the head of the group for approval.
3. The drama activities must be of knowledgeable and interesting contents. The program of drama should be Chinese or foreign famous pieces of drama and the contents of poems and essays must be healthy and of good value.
4. The drama activities should be approved by the head of the drama group, some of the significant activities should be approved by the principal.

The Modern Drama Group of Beijing Huijia School Carrying out Education in Moral Character and Comprehensive Ability to Bring up talented Students for the 21st Century

On November 26th 1999, a big ceremony was held in Huijia school to proclaim the founding of Huijia Modern Drama Group. The consultants of the drama group including famous artists of performance Mr. Chen Jiang, Ms Fang Qingzhuo, and Mr Wang Yongge attended the ceremony and delivered warm speeches of congratulations, which greatly excited the students' interest in modern drama.

The present society has entered a new era of knowledge economy. The rapidly developing society brings about new challenge to education. How should education keep up with the advance of our time to bring up talented students for the 21st century? To solve this problem, Huijia school has got a new idea in the teaching of language and literature. To bring up students into new model ones, Huijia school decided to set up Huijia modern drama group so that the teaching of Chinese language and literature can be carried out outside the classroom and more vigorously. Through such drama activities it will be possible to greatly improve the students' abilities in listening, speaking, reading and writing and the abilities in creation, cooperation, communication and overcoming difficulties.

The setting up of Huijia modern drama group reflects the characteristics of unique approaches, high quality and international features in running the school. Under the guidance of teachers ,the drama group will rehearse Chinese and foreign famous plays in Chinese and English. The program will include school plays written by students, single-act play, short sketches, recitation of poems, etc. Through such drama activities the students will improve their abilities in artistic appreciation and creation, and foster good sentiment.

Huijia modern drama group received warm response of students, in the middle school department only, there were 200 students who applied for entering the drama group. Through competitive selection 47 students was chosen as the members of the drama group. Huijia modern drama group won great support of the parents. Quite a number of famous film and TV artists of performance, induding Mr Chen Qiang, Mr Chen Peisi, Ms Lu Liping ,Ms Fang Qingzhuo, Mr Pan Changjiang, Ms Wang Ji, Mr Wang Yongge, are invited as art consultants.

Directed by the teachers of Chinese subject, Huijia's drama activities will surely push forward the school's teaching reform and play an active role in cultivating talented students for the 21st century.
